CASTILLE & LEON
This region is popular for its vast mountains, rivers, valleys and forests.
Salamanca was the European city of Culture 2002, thanks largely to its splendid Cathedral and variety of historic sites.
At Avila you have fine views from Los Cuatro Postes from where you see the medieval walls, the Alcazar gate and the Cathedral and the Basilica de San Vicente.
Segoria is home of the incredible Roman Aqueduct and Leon’s Cathedral has some of the finest stained glass windows.
Food……..
While in Segoria, try a dish of suckling pig which is popular amongst the locals or if in Avila try a desert made from figs, cherries and tropical fruit.
And Fiesta……
The regions hosts the Carnival of the Bull at Ciudad Rodrigo in February or if walking over hot coals tickles your fancy then you must attend the Crossing of Fire Festival in June.
