The Costa Almeria has been made famous by the many western movies filmed here. These include ‘A Fistful of Dollars’, ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and many more. The film makers were drawn to the dry landscapes and rugged beauty of the area. There are several Spaghetti western sets and a place called ‘Mini Hollywood’ - a town built by Leone - where Bank robberies and Cowboy shootouts can be enjoyed by all through the summer.
This area can also boast over 3,000 hours of sunshine, temperatures at an average of 20 degrees and warm, dry conditions that are of benefit to Asthma, arthritis and rheumatism sufferers.
Mojacar, towards the east of the area, is a pretty town. It is a seaside resort, yet, without the high-rise buildings. Instead, it is set on a hillside with Moorish style houses dotted across it and it still retains a Spanish feel. However, you can still find all the amenities of a resort, including restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Many people fall in love with this town - with it’s Arab background - and settle here. Well worth a visit, though, even if you are not staying!
