Lloret and Tossa coastlines The most northernly area, next door to Costa Dorada, Costa Brava means ‘Wild Coast’, so named for it’s rugged coastline with craggy bays and headlines.
Easily accessible by air, from either Barcelona or Gerona airports, this is a truly beautiful area.
Pretty beaches in rocky coves can be found in the North, surrounded by pine-clad hills, where it is quieter.
Larger resorts include Tossa de Mar’ and Lloret de Mar, where you can find everything you need for a fun relaxing holiday. The easiest way to travel between the local resorts – as far down as Blanes, is by water-taxi, which is both reasonably priced and the scenery along the coast is breathtaking – don’t forget your camera! This is the perfect combination with a spot of shopping in the towns, particularly on market days. ‘Tossa de Mar’, being one of the quieter resorts also has an excellent castle where you can enjoy a panoramic view over the bay.
Smaller resorts and beaches include Roses, in the North, Aiguablava, with its golden sands and Tamariu.
Hire a car and you can enjoy some more of these quieter beaches nearby with the family, or even drive into the Pyrennes Mountain range, where skiing can be enjoyed even in the summer!
Gerona city is situated in the heart of the province. The Quart district is the place to go to buy local crafts, including ceramics. There are historical sights such as the cathedral and Roman baths.
Figueres is famous for it’s Salvador Dali surrealist theatre museum and well worth a visit.
The Costa Brava runs out just north of Barcelona, near Blanes.
Barcelona, a port City, is Spain’s second largest. YThe Spanish Costasou can take an aerial tramway up a local mountain for panoramic views of the city. Barcelona has a long history and so there are many interesting sights to explore, together with stunning Baroque buildings to enjoy as you wander round. The Ramblas promenade, with its cafes and restaurants is a great place to relax and watch the world go by.
