Known as the Coast of Light this region boasts golden sands generally backed by sand dunes and pine trees. Temperatures are mild and the strong Atlantic winds attract windsurfers and surfboarders, Tarifa being a popular town for this recreation. There are usually no more than 30 days of rain annually and in the summer the temperature averages 25?c. The golden beach stretch from the mouth of the River Guadiana to the straits of Gibraltar and the ‘Gateway to America’.

Places worth a visit include the Donana National Park, Huelva which hosts the Cathedral of La Merced and a statue commemorating the departure of Christopher Columbus and inland, Seville.
