Majorca (or Mallorca) is the largest of the Balearics and known as the Isle of Dreams. Mountains, picturesque villages, and secluded coves can be found here. To the other extreme, there are the more lively areas such as Magaluf and Palma Nova, situated in the West, well renowned for their nightlife and crowds. Golf is a favourite sport here and many visit just to do that, as the Island has such a great range of courses, including the Real Golf de Bendinat.
There are many Fiestas here and it is well worth timing your holiday to enjoy the colour and party atmosphere.
Majorca is a stylish Island, which is added to by the fact that the King of Spain has a Palace here.
It’s Capital,
Palma, has a lot to offer. Fabulous architecture, historic buildings and beaches, together with restaurants, bars and a terrific nightlife. The Gothic Cathedral and Bellver Castle are not to be missed if you visit this great place.
On the northern coast,
Puerto Pollensa can be found, with a gorgeous horseshoe bay beach and a waterside promenade, boasting great bars and open air cafes.
Cala San Vincente, surrounded by the stunning ‘Sierra de San Vicentes’, is great for walkers, painters and birdwatchers to explore.
Popular resorts are:
Alcudia, which is great for families, Cala Mesquida, good for walks and watersports and Santa Ponsa, to name but a few.
Costa de los Pinos is an exclusive, cosmopolitan area with an excellent golf course and beach.
Deya is worth a look. Perched high on the mountainside, it has interesting galleries and museums and is a place with a real touch of magic.
The Marina at
Portals Nous is very glitzy – Peter Stringfellow has a residence near there.
There are plenty of attractions to keep children happy on the Island, and if you like fish, do not miss trying the Seabass baked in salt – delicious!
